About the Department

The Department of History was started with the establishment of our college in the year 1956. A number of great scholars and academicians had served as professors in our department namely Prof. Chandrashekar, Assoc. Prof. Shivaraj Kellur and Assoc. Prof. Jagadevi Kalshetty and Principal and HOD, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sureshkumar G. Nandagaon are the main pillars of our department. In fact all these professors contributed to a greater extent to the development of our department.

Vision

It is envisioned to orient the students to the past people’s moral values and events in an objective manner to empower them to deal with their life with realities effectively.

Mission
  • Students are taught social values in history to understand, appreciate and evaluate past events.
  • They are equipped intellectually to interpret historical personalities and significant events.
Objectives
  • To create religious tolerance in the minds of students.
  • To teach facts and figures related to history.
  • To help students understand the relation between present and past events.
  • To develop wisdom and awareness related to past people and events.
  • To give an edge in knowledge to face competitive exams.
  • To provide historical, social, cultural and political orientation.
Outcome
  • Students learn social and political changes and help society accept change.
  • Interpret cultural trends and propagate them in society.
  • Conduct research using historical research methodology.
  • Strengthen critical thinking, communication and presentation skills.
  • Learn dynamics of analysis and interpretation.
  • Engage in discussions on political, social and economic connections.
